The Intersection Position Explained

3 min read

Sockets Sex PositionTwister Sex Position

Not many couples have experimented with the Intersection, a pose where your bodies end up forming an X shape, much the way they do in the Cross position. On that note, the diagrams in our roundup of pleasing sex positions can point you toward even more variations to try — there are more than 100 of them!

To set up the Intersection, both of you lie on your sides. You should be positioned with your head near the top of the bed and your feet toward the bottom. Your man lies perpendicular to you, stretched across the bed with his feet at one edge and his head at the other. Open your legs so he can settle on top of your lower leg before entering you, then rest your top leg over his.

Her Role In The Intersection Position

Because this pose can feel a bit awkward at the start, get comfortable together before any thrusting begins. Since your man is nestled between your legs and putting weight on your lower leg, circulation can get cut off fairly easily — speak up right away if you feel numbness or discomfort. The setup limits how much you can thrust back against him, though masturbating or using your fingers is still very doable, including during anal sex.

His Role In The Intersection Position

Caution matters here for your man. If there's a notable size difference between you two, he shouldn't let his full weight press onto your leg, since that risks circulation loss or pain. Tucking pillows beneath his legs helps keep pressure off you.

His job is simply pushing in and out. The challenge is finding a stance that's comfortable for both of you while still letting him thrust with ease. Spreading his legs wider usually gives him the leverage he needs to keep moving.

He'll also have easy reach of your rear if spanking appeals to you.

Notes On Trying The Intersection Position

Several Love Curi students have shared useful observations about this pose:

  • Skip this one if your man carries significant weight — it'll cause more discomfort than pleasure for you. Climbing on top instead works better. Check out advice for being on top during sex.
  • A slight tweak works too: rather than resting his legs across yours, tuck your own legs toward your stomach to keep them clear. This shifts the Intersection into something closer to a spooning feel.
  • This may not be the ideal choice for chasing G-spot orgasms.

Sean's Take On The Intersection Sex Position

Speaking as a guy, I'm fond of the Intersection. It's not the most intimate move around, but it's a fun way to shake things up occasionally. That said, if you're the one on the receiving end, it's understandable to be wary of your man's full weight resting on one leg.
