Into Calling Him Daddy In Bed? You've Got Plenty Of Company!

7 min read

Lots of couples come up with pet names for each other. Some women take it a step further and call their partner "Daddy." If that strikes you as odd, you're not alone in that reaction either. Still, it's a widespread kink and doesn't automatically point to anything dark underneath.

What's In a Name?

To plenty of people, calling a partner Daddy just sounds strange, maybe even taboo or a bit off-putting. So what draws people to it?

For many women, "Daddy" only comes out during sex — it feels charged in the moment but would seem bizarre anywhere else. In that sense, it functions as a mini sexual roleplay, even without other roleplay elements layered in (though those can absolutely be added, as you'll see shortly).

So why "Daddy" specifically? Does it mean these women have unresolved daddy issues, or worse, a history of abuse by their fathers? Generally speaking, no.

It's a nickname that signals authority, not unlike calling someone "Sir." Daddy specifically conjures the image of a protective, caring father figure. By extension, his partner can feel looked after, cared for, a little naive, and yes — maybe even a touch of the bratty submissive — so long as "Daddy" has things handled.

There's a reason a guy who financially supports a (usually younger) partner gets labeled a "Sugar Daddy." His Sugar Baby feels secure, and in return, he feels powerful. Though plenty of those arrangements have nothing sexual about them at all.

Nobody's required to say "Daddy" if it doesn't do anything for them. Papa, Papi, Sir, Mister, or even his actual name all work fine as long as you're both on board. The label is really just a shortcut into the headspace of the scene.

Why People Do It

Calling him Daddy often plays into a power-exchange dynamic, though for some couples, the nickname is as far as it goes — just a spicy bit of dirty talk.

Part of the appeal is the taboo factor, similar to the thrill of public sex and the chance of getting caught. It's arousing precisely because it feels forbidden — even though everyone involved knows full well it's not literally their father. Almost nobody would find that idea genuinely appealing, even the same people who love saying "Daddy" in the bedroom!

Dirty talk can lean into that naughtiness, hinting that someone might walk in — which only cranks up the heat. People just love flirting with the forbidden.

Props and Costumes in the Bedroom

Props often enter the picture too. A "little girl" persona, for instance, might play with crayons and a notebook, tote around a stuffed animal, or carry a backpack — even if what's actually inside that backpack has nothing to do with anything a real child would own.

Costumes matter just as much. Countless outfits and accessories help set the scene for daddy-and-daughter dynamics.

  • Schoolgirl outfits
  • Knee-high socks
  • Frilly dresses
  • Nighties or lingerie (learn how to pick the perfect lingerie for your body)
  • Mary Jane shoes, especially paired with lacy, cuffed socks
  • Pigtails and braids
  • Barrettes and bows
  • Pink or rainbow color schemes
  • Character-themed clothing
  • Candy-style jewelry
  • Glitter
  • Pacifiers
  • Lollipops
  • Onesies and pajamas

There's clearly a lot of room to fine-tune your look if you want to fully lean into the age-play aesthetic.

Of course, none of this is mandatory. Some people have zero interest in pink, frilly, stereotypically "girly" props. That's totally fine — it's simply an option if it enhances the scene for you, or you can find props that let you tap into "little" energy in a less feminine style.

Calling Him Daddy and BDSM

Calling him Daddy during general roleplay definitely brushes up against BDSM territory (bondage, discipline, sadism, and masochism), but the examples above don't necessarily require going that deep into it.

That said, plenty of couples fully embrace the Daddy Dom/little girl roleplay dynamic within BDSM.

Beyond the dirty talk and costumes already mentioned, this BDSM dynamic can incorporate elements that fall well outside vanilla sex. Check out the list below.

  • Spanking (more about this), flogging, or paddling can serve as punishment when the "little girl" misbehaves or talks back.
  • She may be required to begin and end every sentence with "Daddy" — "Daddy, thank you, Daddy."
  • She might have to "earn" or prove her devotion to "Daddy" through specific tasks, including going down on him (this post covers how) or performing for him in other ways.
  • Daddy might tell bedtime stories.
  • The caregiver figure guides the "little" partner, spotting potential she hasn't yet reached. Expect both praise and correction along the way. Side note: learn about praise kink.
  • He may push her to test her limits to please him.
  • Littles often enjoy time spent in "Little Space," a headspace free of responsibility — similar in concept to sub space.
  • A reward system, much like grade-school incentives, might come into play — a treat for finishing all her "chores," for example.
  • He sets the rules she's expected to follow.

This dynamic can also show up with a woman playing Mommy/Mistress to her own "little" — girl or boy, depending on orientation. Prefer calling the shots yourself? Check out these 10 ideas to dominate your man.

Some couples focus heavily on the age-play element; others barely touch it at all.

Certain relationships live out these roles around the clock — known as total power exchange, or TPE. TPE takes far more sustained effort to maintain than a one-off scene built around calling him Daddy.

If feeling cared for by a boyfriend acting as caregiver matters to you, he'll need to actually settle into that Daddy mindset. It might not click immediately, but finding a shared rhythm matters for both partners to feel fulfilled.

The Drawbacks of Calling Him Daddy

It can absolutely be hot. It can also feel a little weird. Early awkwardness is normal, and honestly, it might just never click for you. That's perfectly okay.

Flipping the switch on and off can be tricky if it's strictly a bedroom-only thing. And if someone overhears it, or you try explaining the dynamic to friends, judgment is a real possibility.

There's also a chance you lose a bit of yourself while playing the part. You're a capable adult juggling real responsibilities and independent thought — but that can slip your mind a little while you're checked out in the "Daddy" headspace.

For some, that mental escape is exactly what's needed. For others, it becomes a crutch for avoiding their real self. If Daddy talk stays confined to the bedroom, this usually isn't an issue at all.

If functioning as an adult already feels shaky, the mere thought of responsibility sends you spiraling, or your actual relationship with your father is genuinely fraught, it might be worth building a more solid foundation before exploring this dynamic.

There's also the broader risk with any power-exchange relationship: the person holding the power (Daddy, here) could misuse it. That authority could be twisted into isolating you, hurting you, or controlling you in unhealthy ways.

A safe word helps guard against that. Find out how to use a safe word. Though if your partner turns out to be genuinely abusive, respecting a safe word probably isn't something he'll bother with anyway.

Beyond that, calling him Daddy carries relatively few real downsides.

This dynamic obviously isn't for everyone, but there's nothing wrong with you if you're among the many women who genuinely enjoy it. If you know a couple who plays these roles, resist the urge to judge — it's a lot more common and a lot less concerning than you might assume!
